This about two separate comments I have written tonight that might
be of interest to you as amateur or professional students of
psychology. The second comment is related to The Occupation of
the American Mind movie. The first comment, next, is not
related to that.

Larry: 1. That is not very close to anything that I recall having said except possibly in some limited context. We certainly are governed by ideas outside of ourselves as children even if only lightly governed. As adults we may or may not stay within the boundaries of authoritarian thought patterns. You may recall that authoritarians can be leaders or followers. The big problem with authoritarians, both leaders and followers, is that they feel that they have a right to make, and should make, final judgements on people. In the case of followers, the judgments are upon each other as to the exactness of their following as well as upon those who do not follow their same leader. That process goes on with little or no bothering to try to learn anything of how different are the ideas that "control" or influence those other people in their different locations and family situations, people who may or may not also be developed authoritarian personality types with notions that conflict seriously with one's own type. Said many various locations and family situations are basically unimaginable realistically especially in the absence of actual listening. Judgments are based significantly upon prejudice and assumption, which preclude realistic understanding. Being "self-actualized" conflicts with being an authoritarian personality type. It is my understanding of the terminology that one cannot be both. Regardless of that, attempting realistic understanding of people upon whom we happen to focus our attention is of interest to some. Again, that means trying to absorb something of their experiences without the personal twists involved in judgment.

As I was out hiking just now it occurred to me that you might have been referring to some comments in or about a major example, The Occupation of the American Mind, which refers to Likkud and the rest of the Israel Lobby controlling the minds of many or most Americans, in a major sense, through the constant repetition of false facts, through their control of the major American television media. Yes, that is certainly real. And do please note further that following Likkud, of which Benjamin Netanyahu is a big part, or following the followers of Likkud--assuming that you have been paying just a slight bit of attention you do know the names of some of the bigger American leaders among the Netanyahu/Likkud followers...., following Likkud is also and inevitably to follow along with global capitalism as the primary enabler and major tool of Likkud even more intensely than global capitalism is significant for many of the the other governments and businesses and people of the world. You might get a start on understanding that just by thinking of the fact of 92 percent of Israel's economy being tied up in the production high tech military equipment for sale to various other countries including the United States as one of its major customers.
But even the mind control that Likkud exerts is something that we can control, if we are put our minds to it and are very careful to work to find more fact sources and to try to analyze them carefully using the minds of various others for whatever assistance they may provide.
Disowning Likkud and its leaders and followers does not require jumping to some other leader to follow blindly, except in the case of those with authoritarian personality types who do just have to have somebody to follow.
