Brief introduction first:
Perhaps you are old enough to remember having seen bits of the Iraq war, vaguely. Or perhaps you were there and saw it a bit more than vaguely.
Some of us knew all along that it was purposely done by some powerful people in a group known as the Project for a New American Century ("PNAC") (Wikipedia link). We read their September 2000 report, Rebuilding America's Defenses, which was developed over the years from 1997 to 2000 and which was published before 9/11 happened, obviously. The PNAC site is off line now, but you can still see the signatories to the earlier Statement of Principles at the signatories section on Wikipedia. (link)
In that September 2000 report, those people said they needed an excuse to attack Iraq, because attacking Iraq would be good for the U.S. economy. They said that what they needed was another Pearl Harbor, something to get the American people riled up. I kid you not! I still have my copy of that report, downloaded from their site years ago, if anyone would like to see it and cannot find a copy otherwise. One of those 25 people was Richard Cheney, who was well known as the puppet master of George W. Bush during his presidency.
And boy did they ever get their wish. As of September 7, 2008, the U.S. had 761 military bases. (article link) Somewhere around in 2012 or 2013, I believe it was, I read that the U.S. military had TEN TIMES the amount of military bases and equipment that it had had at the time of the attack on Iraq in 2003. Think about how much money that took out of our hides. It appears that that was a big part of the point of it--that and trying to start stealing land and oil from that part of the world rather than having to buy all of it. And it just happened that at the time of the attack, Saddam Hussein had been about to open his new "oil bourse" to sell oil in currencies other than the U.S. dollar. That was a BIG no-no at that time for the U.S because of our economic reliance on the dollar reserve system. The dollar reserve currency system--not to be confused with the term "reserves" as used in the bank lending system--forced other countries to have a reserve of dollars bought from the U.S. with which to purchase oil for themselves. The U.S. military enforcement of that has faded somewhat rather recently, but at that time it had been solid.

The publication of this report shows that there was a lot of absolute lying going on both by Tony Blair of the U.K. and by George W. Bush, Richard Cheney's mouthpiece as we know, at the time of the attack. I leave it to you to read about it.
I suggest that everything that has happened with the U.S. being involved in supporting attacks directly and indirectly in that part of the world has flowed from that attack. For a number of people it has all been good. For me it has not been so good. Those for whom it has been good so far are obviously eager for Hillary Clinton to gain the power to spend more, to attack more, and to steal more. Myself I do not expect to feel good about that either.

Now I've got a question for ya, and please do not let dear Donald Trump and his brand of hatefulness throw you off. Think, please!: Who is it that owes fair damages to all of those Iraqi families who suffered losses of family members, injuries, and property loss and damage as a result of the evil endeavor that we were led into by some evil people? And how are they ever going to get their money. There never were any "weapons of mass destruction" in Iraq. There was no Al-Qaeda in Iraq until later. Those who flew the planes into the Twin Towers were from Saudi Arabia, not from Iraq. Our leaders clearly knew all of that but just wanted to attack Iraq for their own personal benefit.
