sent 6/27/16 And Now Glenn Greenwald: "Brexit Is Only the Latest Proof of the Insularity and Failure of Western Establishment Institutions"

Glenn Greenwald links a number of other excellent knowledgeable and insightful commentaries on the topic of the exit of Great Britain from the European Union (Brexit).  Put together, they add considerable weight to the one from Vox that I just sent you earlier (link).
"Brexit Is Only the Latest Proof of the Insularity and Failure of Western Establishment Institutions," The Intercept, June 25, 2016.

Glenn Greenwald is a well-known U.S. Constitutional lawyer who for years was a famous columnist for Salon and who in recent years has become even more well known for his backing of our whistle-blower heroes Julian Assange, Chelsea (formerly Bradley) Manning, and Edward Snowden.  I have noticed over the years that he pretty much always knows his facts.

See here (link) to review Glenn Greenwald's appearances in my messages to you back to March 6, 2014.

Having just sent you the article (link) by Zack Beauchamp on Britain's exit from the European Union, this is mainly to remind us all of some important things about economics, lest you might forget amidst all the current political BS: "Thomas Piketty, Paul Krugman and Joseph Stiglitz: The Genius of Economics" March 6, 2015 (YouTube 1 hour 16 minutes)  "Piketty, arguably the world’s leading expert on income and wealth inequality, does more than document the growing concentration of income in the hands of a small economic elite. He also makes a powerful case that we’re on the way back to ‘patrimonial capitalism,’ in which the commanding heights of the economy are dominated not just by wealth, but also by inherited wealth, in which birth matters more than effort and talent,” wrote Paul Krugman in The New York Times. Krugman and his fellow Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz (author of The Great Divide) join Piketty to discuss the genius of economics."

sent 6/26/16 "Brexit is terrifying — and no, not because of the economics"

Don't be terrified, do relax.  But this is interesting.  In case you have not heard much about "Brexit," Great Britain, after a popular vote, is slated to leave the European Union over the next two year period.  Update after comment: Do remember, we did this.  Please see at the bottom after the quotations from this article.
"Brexit is terrifying — and no, not because of the economics," updated by Zack Beauchamp, Vox, June 24, 2016.

It sounds to me as though Brexit was in large part a reaction to the huge rise in inequality in Britain in addition to xenophobia.  We certainly have both of those things progressing here in the United States, the poor getting poorer and the rich getting richer--vastly richer(!), what with the huge increase in the size of the financial sector--and fear of aliens--just not quite as sharply.  But Zack Beauchamp also places emphasis on the idea that globalization has made making war more difficult, because it is more difficult to make war when you need your enemies' products to build your war equipment.  The author expresses concern that an increase in independence could lead to a reversal of the difficulty in having wars.

The quotations below are just a taste, a teaser.  I am leaving out a lot.  The article has graphs and charts.

"'What’s terrifying about Brexit [is] that a lot of the global economy takes certain rules of the game as given," Dan Drezner, an expert on the global economy at Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, told me. "They’ve assumed for quite some time — really, the past 70 years — that the global economy is moving in one direction, and that one direction is towards greater openness. ... Those rules of thumb are now being thrown out the window.'

"This global order depends crucially on a set of supranational institutions, like the EU. These institutions can only function if member states can keep nationalism in check and submit to a shared framework for governing the world. The global order has served us astonishingly well, making the post–Cold War era the richest and least violent time in human history.

"But that optimism is now threatened. British voters, motivated largely by xenophobic nationalism, have opted out of one of the pillars of the postwar order, the European Union. For the first time since World War II, Western nationalism has beaten globalism in a major way......"

"......Those two things — migration and a shared set of institutions — are the very rules that integrated Britain into the EU economy and helped it prosper. A little less than 50 percent of UK exports go to the EU, and most experts believe that losing privileged access to EU labor and import markets would shave a significant amount off British GDP.

"Yet British voters [especially from low income areas] took a look at all of that and said, screw this. We want to keep immigrants out. To hell with supranational institutions. We want our country back......"

"......According to Bell, these lower-income areas aren’t places that lost out recently due to the financial crisis. It’s about a legacy of poverty and inequality. 'The shape of our long-lasting and deeply entrenched national geographical inequality that drove differences in voting patterns,' he writes.

"These people had little reason to believe Britain’s status quo was benefiting them. They had no reason to restrain their fear and angst at seeing foreigners and no resources for understanding the way in which immigration benefited the UK as a whole. They also had no reason to trust UK or EU elites, or their dire warnings of impending economic doom, given their catastrophic mismanagement of the 2008 financial collapse and the eurozone crisis.

"Instead, they saw more and more foreigners coming into the country and understood it as a threat to their way of life. Fear of foreigners is deeply ingrained in British national culture, as it is almost everywhere. Polling data shows high levels of hostility to immigrants going back decades, and mass immigration brought it to the fore......"

"......Britain leaving the EU is by far the biggest blow to the liberal system to date. The financial crisis may have been more damaging the world, but it wasn’t an explicit rejection of the global system by voters in an advanced democracy. The low-income, low-educated voters in the UK haven’t seen the benefits from globalism, didn’t understand them, or — most worryingly — cared less about those benefits than they did about keeping out foreigners.
"The thing that is truly scary about Brexit is that it may be just the beginning. Donald Trump is the presumptive Republican nominee, and anti-immigrant populists are surging in polls in France, the Netherlands, Germany, and Sweden. These countries, too, have low-income, low-educated voters who don’t see the global order’s greatest benefits.
"The concern is that politicians in these countries marshal the same xenophobic nationalism that fueled Britain's Leave campaign and use it to push their own countries out of various parts of the global order.
"'I hope this victory brings down this failed project and leads us to a Europe of sovereign nation states,' Nigel Farage, the leader of the UK Independence Party and one of the driving forces behind Brexit, said in his Friday morning victory speech. 'We'll have done it not just for ourselves, we'll have done it for the whole of Europe.'
"Farage’s hopes, experts say, are not entirely in vain. 'The [fear] is that the UK exit will encourage a lot of other rejectionist forces to call for national referenda for exiting the EU,' Drezner says. 'In that case, God knows what the hell happens in Europe.'......"
"......You can see how badly this could go. Instability in Europe rocks the US economy. The recession elects Donald Trump. Trump’s rejection of international institutions and norms further destabilizes the global economy, which leads to the election of right-wing populists in key countries like Germany and France, who deliver the coup de grace to the EU. This creates further economic instability, breeding further discontent, which pushes voters even further to the extremes.
"It’s a vicious cycle — the precise opposition of the virtuous one created by global institutions. By keeping major powers united politically and keeping global markets open, these institutions reduced the incentive for conflict. In the absence of major conflict, countries grew wealthier and more integrated, which in turn reduced the risk of conflict further. On and on again.
"But Brexit raises the prospect of a reversion — of one shock to the system begetting another. Each shock undoes a bit of the global order, which makes people poorer and angrier, begetting more xenophobia and international tensions. As xenophobia and international tensions rise, markets panic, making everything worse."
-------------------------------------------
I just received a comment from a friend that reminded me of the content of this message, sent 3/15/16 "We" did this: "Voices from Syria: 'This camp is a paradise compared to life back home,'" as a major causal factor in Brexit and in the similar social upheavals listed as going on now in France, the Netherlands, Germany and Sweden.  It is also clear that the wealthy and the poor might have similar interests about who they want as neighbors.  The wealth have a much easier time separating themselves from undesirable neighbors than do the poor, who have great difficulty in finding the resources with which to move.  It appears that the native poor in Briton would prefer not to have to try to do the same thing that many poor and middle-class Muslims are trying to do after what we and our "friends" have done to them--that is, the European poor might find it difficult to up and move to some more congenial place after the Muslim migrants move in from Syria and possibly from other places that we with some minor assistance from our "friends" have destroyed, such as Iraq.

I have mentioned my old friend Richard Wicka and his wonderful work with his ThinkTwiceRadio.com and HOTFTV sites several times in the past.  Do check them out again.

BUT NOW WE HAVE RICHARD WICKA HIMSELF!  YAAY, FINALLY!

He seems not to mind our seeing him while he's alive. :-)  After having known him for over 45 years, I have learned a lot more from having watched this great interview.  And I am much happier for him now than I was.  I kid you not.

He's Dead Get Over It part 1
(YouTube, 30 min, parts 2 through 5 links below).

He said, "On 6/15/16 Heather Gring and Ron Ehmke came over to interview me for an archive series that the Burchfield Penney Art Center is doing. They agreed to sit down at the Magic Theater Round Table and put it all on video. I am so glad they did. I put on some Jazz music because I find it is the best music for making people introspective. For example, I can't imagine anyone listening to Pete Laroca's "Lazy Afternoon" and not relaxing and reflecting. So, we began the interview and it wasn't long before Heather put aside her questions and we began interviewing each other. Pretense and artifice all melted away as we spoke from our hearts. I liked this so much that I am going to reference this series in my will. It will be something for people to look at after my death (hence the title)."

sent 6/22/16 Ye Gods 4++ BIG THREAT TO PRIVACY AGAIN; the IMF; raging fires to get worse; factory farming damage; attack on privacy

Ye Gods, tonight there are too many seriously important things that I think you might want to know about, to send them separately.  So you can look here and scan down the list for yourself.
http://www.commondreams.org/news

For starters:
1. IMF Warns that US Needs to 'Urgently' Tackle Poverty
"Invest in the nation's infrastructure, raise the minimum wage, expand the Earned Income Tax Credit, improve paid family leave, and raise the ceiling for social security contributions."  This is the International Monetary Fund, for Pete's sake, known for being a tool of the wealthy, mainly!  So are things that bad?  Really really?

Do remember that the Trans-Pacific Partnership proposal is far beyond far worse than the label given to those who oppose it. [ARCHIVES LINK] And I guess that since many Republicans oppose the TPP we should consider them "progressives"? lol  Never mind.  You know that I strongly disapprove of labels.  But the TPP and labels are both topics that are way different from any of a) investing in the nation's infrastructure, b) raising the minimum wage, c) expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit, d) improving paid family leave, and e) raising the ceiling for social security contributions.

2. As Southwest Burns, Climate Scientists Warn: You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet  You know that May 2016 was the 13th month in a row of record high worldwide temperatures, right?  So I wonder whether you might be thinking of how you and your family might be able to switch to alternative energy sources, like geothermal and solar while cutting back on investments in the fossil fuels industries.  "'If we continue with business-as-usual burning of fossil fuels, by mid-century what we think of as extreme summer heat today will become a typical summer day,' [Michael Mann] said."

3. Pools of Waste: Landmark Analysis Exposes Factory Farming Filth: The analysis makes clear: 'Animal feeding operations are degrading the quality of life for hundreds of thousands of rural residents [in North Carolina]'  They are endangering health in communities and messing up the waterways.

4. Senate Rejects "Hatchet to Americans' Privacy"—But Threat Remains  America is supposed to be about freedom bigtime, right?  The fight is not over.

There's more....

Why would you want know these things?  If nothing else, to reduce the likelihood of your getting fooled by idiots and liars.

Just another HUMONGOUS piece of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's horrible record of favoring no one but the wealthy outside the borders of the American continent.  One "little" thing she did was to bring on huge opposition to raising the minimum wage from 26¢ per hour to 61¢ per hour.  So that proposal lost, favoring U.S. and international business investors whether the majority of Haitians like it or not.

sent 6/15/16 "What Bernie Sanders voters need to know about false flags"

First: If you missed Senator "Bernie" Sanders live over the Internet last night, you can see it at http://bernie.to/future or at https://berniesanders.com/stream/?utm_source=sms&utm_medium=sms&utm_campaign=sms160616  I believe that the woman whose side you can see in the initial picture is his wife.  The speaking starts at about 2 minutes 52 seconds in.

Now on to the main feature of this particular message:
------------------------------------
"What Bernie Sanders voters need to know about false flags," by Dr. Kevin Barrett, a Ph.D. "Arabist-Islamist."  Dr. Barrett has taught at colleges and universities in San Francisco, Paris, and Wisconsin, where he ran for Congress in 2008. He currently works as a nonprofit organizer, author, and talk radio host.  The expensive book that he mentions in the article, NATO's Secret Armies: Operation GLADIO and Terrorism in Western Europe (Contemporary Security Studies) (2005) is by Dr. Ganser Danielle, a Swiss researcher.  Reviews state that the facts given in the book have never been questioned.

The big point of the article is to warn supporters of the programs for which that Senator Sanders advocates to be ready to rise up against reactions to clandestine false flag operations by powers in the hard right wing, as Syria did when Syrian President Assad was accused in 2013 of having using chemical weapons when it was not he who had done it.  Who had done it was us, trying to get the world to believe that Assad had crossed President Obama's "red line."  Another example was in Spain, when clandestine "Gladio B" operatives bombed a train in Madrid for the sake of demonizing Muslims and to push the Spanish government deeper into Iraq.  That did not work, because Spanish people figured it out.  The United States and NATO were involved in a number of such occurrences in Europe before the end of the Cold War, trying to make it appear that attacks were being made by "leftists."

We need to be ready to figure it out in the event of any such future occurrences that might occur trying to make it appear that attacks are being made either by "leftists" or by Muslims so as to push justification for revving up our war machine attacks even further instead of revving them down.

Thank you to the researcher in the family who is at least as good as, if not better than, I am and who sent me this great article link.

I do not know whether this analysis of Donald Trump's statements back then is correct.  Nor do I know that he has not changed his mind or made contradictory statements in the two+ months that have passed.  But if it is true, if I could trust, that Donald Trump really wants my country to stop paying for the evil of its gross imperialism then I will definitely vote for him over Hillary Clinton whatever his motive and no matter what else, just about!!!!  Our collective evil is just that huge.

* Now this is interesting.  The site where this article was published on April 2, 2016 has quit publishing because of attacks.  The original link that I received for the article was https://gianalytics.org/663-trump-we-can-believe-in-new-york-times-makes-why-anti-imperialists-must-support-donald-trump  What it says there now is sad.  By the way, the Flagfox add-on to my Firefox web browser says that the gianalytics.org server is physically located in Germany.
BUT: You can see the article safely and anonymously at "Trump We Can Believe In: New York Times makes clear why anti-imperialists MUST support Donald Trump," by Joshua Tartakovsky, Global Independent Analytics, April 2, 2016.

I use Startpage invariably as a portal to the Google search engine to protect myself against Google collecting data on me from my searches.  For me, that is the main point of Startpage.  Startpage is located in the Netherlands, and as far as Google is concerned all searches through Startpage originate from Startpage.  Startpage is a free service.

Through Startpage I did a search for the article after I saw that it had disappeared from under the original link.  One of the extra features that Startpage has is "Proxy."  Using "Proxy," it is possible sometimes to get a page even after the original page is no longer accessible directly.  So I found the article.  This is a link that works.  The URL ixquick-proxy.com is a service of Startpage:

UPDATE SEVERAL HOURS LATER:
After sending out the portion above, I received this comment from my famous friend Anon77:

Anon77: Because Trump changes his mind so often, any speculation about what he will do should he become president is meaningless.
There was a joke about King Louis 16th in 1788. "If you want to find out what he thinks, ask the last person he spoke to." Trump is similar.
My reply:

LAS: [Thank you, Anon77, for the comment.]
Yes.  And the person who sent me that article is also well aware of that.  And there is also the possibility that Mr. Trump meant what he said back as of April and still feels that way but might lie and say he's changed his mind when he hasn't really changed his mind.  :-7
