Yes copper is of great importance. Back in the late 1960s and early 1970s there was evidence that the Vietnam war [archives link, see update at bottom] was being fought for U.S. access to the copper mines in Vietnam. More than half the copper ever mined has been mined in just the past 24 years. So. Now you have a conundrum, perhaps. Risk copper prices rising or again try to steal copper from those who are weaker, this time from the Apache Indians in America, perhaps even starting another war of right against might--with the Indians being the ones mostly losing their lives again of course--from the point of view that war is sometimes justified even if losing is certain.
