I have happened upon a three part video in which legendary musician Roger Waters of Pink Floyd and University of Massachusetts Amherst Communications Professor Sut Jhally discuss their new film about the Israeli public relations campaign to influence U.S. public opinion, The Occupation of the American Mind. It seems huge. The links are at the bottom, below my original answer. I do not have the movie itself yet, but I have decided upon one of the options--ordering the DVD. The viewing choices are easy to find under the link at the top of these video pages, about ordering the movie.
Over time I have developed great respect for Paul Jay and The Real News Network. He is again doing something that is just superb, the best of journalism. The opinions expressed are those of the speakers. Though I have not yet gotten the movie, this seems to demonstrate that a major part of the answer has to do with the concentrated and ongoing activities of the hard right-wing Israeli government.
